Sleeping man, Kashgar

I figure this guy is pretty tough. He’s about 75 years old and he’s napping on a slab of concrete. When he’s awake he apparently walks around in bare feet – which look pretty gnarled, incidentally. If you offered him a pair of shoes he’d probably laugh at you and then challenge you to a foot race in the desert. And win. This was taken in the town of Kashgar, in the westernmost part of China. Back in ’97 you had to take a two-day, bone-crunching bus ride from Urumqi to get to Kashgar. It was so bad my companion and I opted to go to Pakistan sans visa instead of undertaking that journey again. Now you can get to Kashgar by train. Laaaame.
