Best friends, Rawalpindi

While awaiting my visa to India, I languished in Rawalpindi, Pakistan, for several days. I say “languished” because the area was being hammered by a brutal heat wave. One day it hit an astonishing 47 degrees. The papers reported deaths. When I wasn’t hiding out in the hostel eating mashed potatoes (God, they were good), I was riding the bus to Islamabad to check on my visa. I met these two after arriving back in ‘Pindi from one of these sweltering rides. I just love the expressions on their faces.
