Temples, Bagan

This is just a taste of the ancient city of Bagan, in Burma. More than 10,000 temples and pagodas were built on this plain between the 9th and 13th centuries, and 2,200 remain standing. If you go to Bagan, beware of sellers hawking fake gemstones. My friend bought a “ruby” ring for his girlfriend back in Israel. I took one look at it and said, “That’s a garnet.” So in Bangkok we brought it to a jewellery store, and the jeweller took one look at it and said, “That’s a garnet.” I laughed.
