Uighur wool merchants, Kashgar

The guy on the right counts the money, the guy on the left looks at him as if he wants a piece. Or maybe I don’t know what I’m talking about. What I do know is that Kashgar (or “Kashi,” if you’re Han Chinese), the westernmost city in China, is (was? I was there in like 1997) home to one of the last remaining gigantic Mao statues in China. It was really weird to see it there, in that city of mostly Uighurs. Maybe the government thought Mao still had something to teach them.
