Getting to Pakistan

Wazir Khan Mosque, Lahore

It wasn’t even our intention to go to Pakistan. But after travelling all the way to the westernmost part of China, and with the Karakoram Highway beckoning just across the border, we decided to see if Pakistan would let us in. We arrived at the border and were given a three-day transit visa – whew – which meant we had to get to Islamabad right away so we could get a longer visa. We ended up staying three weeks in Pakistan. What a beautiful country. That was over 15 years ago, long before the Afghanistan War, which spilled over the border. Anyone been to Pakistan lately? What’s it like now?
